Naomi & Ruth’s 12-month residential recovery program supports women through a holistic, trauma-informed approach to healing. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from families, funders, and those considering our program.

How is Naomi and Ruth funded?
The Naomi and Ruth Women’s Centre receives no on-going government funding and is primarily funded by donations. We raise funds through speaking engagements, events and our sponsor-a-woman monthly donation program. Please reach out to our executive director if you have further questions.

Is your program evidence-based?
Yes. Our approach integrates evidence-informed practices such as trauma recovery, 12-step–aligned supports, and cognitive behavioural principles. Our outcomes reflect national and international research on the effectiveness of long-term, wraparound recovery programs.
What is the cost to attend the program?
There is no entrance fee required to enter our residential program. If you are on some type of monthly government assistance, we charge $600/month for room and board payable at the first of each month. This includes meals, housing, and on-site programs. The program is 12 months in duration with a graduation ceremony and certificate presentation upon completion.
How long is the program?
The program is 12 months in during divided into two phases as follows: Basic training and step up. In the latter part of the program, we encourage each woman in our care to pursue employment or plan for further education. At the end of the program, a public graduation ceremony is held to honor graduates and present a graduation certificate.
What is your waiting list policy?
We often have a significant waiting list for entrance to Naomi and Ruth. The best approach to gain entrance, is to call often to our office to ensure your name stays at the top of the waiting list. We look for applicants who are treatment ready. ie what are your motives for applying? Is this a stop along the way, or are you ready to get serious about your recovery? On average, most women wait one or two months to gain entrance to our program.
Do you provide a detox service?
No, we do not offer detox services at our facilities. If you require detoxification, we require that you attend a detox facility prior to entrance to our women’s program. Please speak with our intake staff about entry requirements concerning detox.
Is smoking or vaping allowed in the program?
Yes, however we encourage you to quit/taper smoking or vaping while attending the program for sake of your long-term health. We will provide mentorship support to help you achieve this goal. If you do use cigarettes or vape, we require you to do so outdoors in the designated smoking area on the property.
Can I use Methadone or Suboxone while attending the program?
Methadone or Suboxone treatment is allowed with a prescription from a physician. We work with our consulting physician to help you begin tapering from use of support prescription three months after admission to our centre. Please note that abuse of prescription medications is grounds for discharge from the program.
Can I still use my cell phone / smart phone will in the program?
We will limit your access to electronic devices during entrance and for the first few months of the program. This is for the purpose of removing distractions to your recovery until you are stabilized. You will gain more access to your digital device as you progress in the program.
Can my children and family visit me?
Yes, if you have children, your children may visit you on weekends and holidays after your first 30 days in the program.
What is the policy on passes to go home on occasional weekends?
Weekend passes are contingent on your progress in the program. As you advance in the program, you can apply to go home on occasional weekends and holidays.
What happens if I use illegal drugs while in the program?
If you use illegal drugs while in the Naomi and Ruth program (on or off-site) you will be discharged from the program for 30 days. We also require each resident to submit to periodic drug tests.
What is a typical weekly schedule?
Our program involves scheduled time for classes, music and worship, personal and group devotions, healing-focused sessions, life skills training, mentorship, group sharing, exercise, and recreational activities. Click link here for more information.
Are the rooms shared?
Due to the high demand for our women’s program, we require two women to share one room in separate beds. We also ask that you bring a limited amount of clothing upon your arrival due to our limited storage space.
Do you have to be religious to enter or attend this program?
No. While Naomi and Ruth is a faith-based program, you do not have to be religious to enter this program. We do ask that you to be open to a faith-based recovery approach which includes chapel services and prayer along with a variety of practical skills classes.
